In other Gaming News

Posted by zerofigures on January 1, 2016

I’ve been contemplating the purchase of the Xbox One Elite Controller and notice that this $150 controller (in the U.S) is only $125 in the Asian Market through Play Asia.  Now I have to wonder if I should buy there or buy at Best Buy. I’m hearing decent reviews about it and hope to pick one up soon.

There was a lot of noise recently regarding Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune.  I had already preordered mine through a different japanese eRetailer but then learned that the Japanese version will not have English subtitles while the Asia version does.  Another Play-Asia purchase. Once upon a time I would have purchased the Collector’s Edition but I’m not sure I have the money at the moment.

I don’t even have a PS4 yet but I know I will be buying one, it’s just a matter of time before the right bundle is released and then I’ll be able to play my Onechanbara Z2 as well!

Dead or Alive 5

Posted by zerofigures on September 14, 2011

News just broke on joystiq about 45 mins ago and while I can’t scream, jump for joy, or roll around on the floor like a mad man, I can pump my fist and punch the shit out of the air like I’ve never done before!

For someone who has followed the series from the beginning , I am extremly excited as I’ve had to wait too long for this.  PSP and 3DS versions aside,

Thank you Team Ninja, I have extremely high hopes for this game.

Ninja Gaiden 3 E3 preview Trailer

Posted by zerofigures on February 28, 2011

So Tecmo, is this why I can’t play Dead or Alive 5 yet?

Sure it won’t be the same without Itagaki but I think I’ll be happy with what I get.

So please, after Ninja Gaiden 3 is complete and in my possession, please feel free to finish any new Dead or Alive game you might be working on (portable games don’t count, and please no photo games, just pure jiggly non-stop kick ass action).

I have enough faith in Tecmo to know Ninja Gaiden 3 will be awesome. The gave us NG Black on Xbox and Sigma one and two on the PS3 (notice those are the enhanced versions), and they did not disappoint.  I have my fingers crossed for some old school and new school badassery so please hurry up.

Best Buy Theater Halo Reach Midnight Release Experience

Posted by zerofigures on September 14, 2010

So Halo Reach comes out today.  For some reason I think that productivity around the world is going to drop drastically.  I know I for one have taken the day off, not to play the game but to rest and wait for it to arrive by UPS.  Last night I attended the midnight release in New York at the Best Buy Theater in Time Square, formerly the Nokia Theater.  If you were there, I was the guy in the army green “I am Master Chief” (from the Halo 3 midnight launch) shirt.

Kotobukiya’s Venus on the Beach Kasumi

Posted by zerofigures on November 25, 2009

Why oh why must you do this to me Kotobukiya!?  As I try to limit my spending, and I try not to pre-order any figures, as I try to reduce my massive collection, you just keep pulling me back in.  There is absolutely no way to pass up on this new beauty coming our way.

I have been able to resist the temptation of many figures recently but after learning of this today, I fell prey to this magnificent item of PVC.

Not only have I been waiting for the next Venus on the Beach figure from Kotobukiya, but I’m a slut for just about anything Dead or Alive.

See my past review for Kokoro Venus on the Beach.

I apologize for my lack of updates but a shit load of games have been released recently it’s difficult to keep up with that as it is.  With news of Kasumi coming I may have to release the other VotB’s soon.  We’ll see what time allows.

One more for the road…

Kasumi can be pre-ordered through multiple figure retailers now

(release date will vary with retailer)

Capcom’s Darkstalkers Graphic File by Udon

Posted by zerofigures on January 26, 2009

Just got this book in after nearly a years wait.  I placed my order for this book through Amazon.com on April 7, 2008.  After multiple emails updating me that of released date being pushed back, my order didn’t ship until January 14th, 2009.   If that does show my dedication to this book, then I don’t know what does.

Morrigan Felicia Art

As a long time video game fan and a lover of 2D fighters when this book was announced I knew I had to have it.  I knew very little about what the book would contain but that didn’t matter as it mentioned it would include artwork collected from the Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior series.

At first glance of the Darkstalker’s Graphic File, expecting and a book full of art, I was disappointed to find out that it was not so.  Out of 140 pages it only gives about 23 pages dedicated to the art itself.  I felt quite ripped off immediately.  There are however very detailed biographies through out the book which do provide additional art.  You can also think of it as a game guide since it provides the move lists for the characters.  All Darkstalkers/Vampire Savior games for all systems are listed in the back noting every character and what game they have appeared in.

Art IMArt figure section

This book isn’t really a reader, but instead you should enjoy the art, concepts and ideas.  There’s really nothing to do but appreciate the information which is presented to you and seek to enlighten yourself with things about the series you didn’t know.  I enjoyed the art for Dee, a character I knew nothing about before getting the book.  It’s great to learn about the characters and history behind the games.  There’s even a small section dedicated to figures.

My favorite fighting game company has always been Capcom,  giving us such series as Street Fighter, Rival Schools, Darkstalkers (Vampire Savior), and the VS series kept me indoors (arcade or home) for hours.  Many of those games complete my collection today.  I’ve always been a fan of Capcoms artwork regarding their fighting games and always jump at owning any of it as part of my collection.  I already own Udon’s Art of Capcom book and as a former comic book collector, I enjoy Udon’s work.  Just recently purchased the new Street Fighter Legends Chun Li and I’ve even picked up their trade paper backs (TPB) of the Street Fighter series.

The current generation of fighting games is great (Tecmo, Namco, etc. ), but it’s really nothing like the ones I grew up with.  I remember playing those Capcom fighters in the arcade for hours on end.  Then later, once the game was released for home consoles, like the Sega Saturn, playing an arcade perfect translation for even more hours.  This is a great piece of nostalgia for any fan of the series or capcom.  I have no doubt that there will be some facts in this book that fans will find interesting and fun.

Beach-goer Kokoro from DOAX2 by Kotobukiya

Posted by zerofigures on January 15, 2009

Kokoro

Ahhhh, it’s been a long time but here is the latest addition to my collection. The lovely Kokoro who first made her appearance in Dead or Alive 4. I’ve followed DOA from PS1 to Dreamcast to PS2 to Xbox to Xbox 360. The only version I never got was the Saturn import. The creators, Team Ninja, went on to make Dead or Alive Xtreme Volleyball for the original Xbox which was somewhat fun. That game received a sequel on the 360 which wasn’t very fun. The difficulty was increased and some feats were just impossible.

Kokoro (2)

Kokoro (6)Kokoro (5)Kokoro (4)

From that sequel, Kotobukiya has produced the “Venus on the Beach” DOAX2 PVC series. The previous releases include (not necessarily in this order) Kasumi, Lei Fang, Tina, Hitomi, Ayane and now Kokoro. When the first, Kasumi was released, importing these figures cost about $80+, the more patient U.S. collector could have picked up Kasumi for almost under $40 in some places. With each release, I seem to have to pay a higher and higher price. Normally Kotobukiya releases are able to keep low prices once a N.A. release happens but I don’t know what’s going on.

Kokoro (9)
I was able to get mine from GCS Toys & Collectibles. This small start up provides quality service and isn’t widely know. I was able to find my Max Factory Shana and Shuraki’s Char Rhousemann long after they had been sold out at other sites. I believe those two examples may have long been sold out from the site but they are just examples. I’ve placed many orders GCS and have never been disappointed. I was however disappointed to find out that business was not going so well due to the economic situation. As such the business may be going under. Normally I say it’s survival of the fittest, but the level of service that I have received makes me want to keep one of the better legit PVC and Hobby retailers around for a long time. All I’m asking is that anyone reading this will take a look at the site and see if you can find that rare missing item from your collection. Please keep in mind that the more legit retailers we have round who provide great service, the less you will have to turn to ebay and possibly buy a fake item.

But I digress, though I have the other figures, this is the latest DOAX2 figure and since I’ve wanted to test out my new XSI, she was the prime target. Hopefully the quality of the pics will improve as a get better with the camcera.

Kokoro (19)

The main thing I love about this figure is her umbrella. It’s an actual mini Japanese paper umbrella. I can’t say that this feature sold me on the figures since I’m collecting the lot, but it sure helped. Further up the handle you can find a locking mechanism which keeps the umbrella open.

Kokoro (12)

The other accessories include her Citron outfit from DOAX2, two small bows to be attached on her hips, the beaded neck strap and the base. The Skirt has built in panties to keep her bikini hidden when you display Citron.  A few pictures up you can the notches in her chest that allow her nexk strap to be attached.

Kokoro (11)Kokoro (8)Kokoro (10)

Her Apple bikini is not removable. It is permanently built on to the figure.

Kokoro (18)

This may well be my favorite of the DOAX2 Venus on the Beach series. This figure is simply beautiful. Maybe it’s my love of most things Japanese, but this Apprentice Geisha while not my favorite character in DOA4, has easily become of my favorite figures. Dare I say she is the most simple, natural and most realistic of the DOAX2 VotB series so far.

Kokoro (15)

Hey Kotobukiya, Christie, Helena and La Mariposa (aka Lisa) still haven’t been released. I’m sure that I’m not the only one waiting for them so please keep up the good work and I can guarantee you at least one sale 😉

1UP and EGM Down and All Around Ramblings

Posted by zerofigures on January 7, 2009

Lot’s of rain today in NYC.  Train ride wasn’t bad.  Got a seat, and miraculously didn’t have anyone sitting next to me with “Restless-Me Syndrome”.  That’s what I call it when women can’t seem to keep out of their bags or just for no damn good reason keep on fidgeting and elbowing me every 5 minutes.

Apparently some people seem to think that rain is a good reason to play sick, stay home and not come into work.  When my commute is 50 minutes and yours is 20 minutes, I feel no compassion.

Speaking of compassion, as a gamer, I must express my sadness about multiple losses to the gaming community.  Once Ziff Davis property, 1UP has been sold to Hearst Corporation’s UGO.  The worst part of it all, a large part of the 1UP staff has been let go as a result of the sale.  I didn’t use 1UP much, but word on the street is that they provided some quality gaming podcast.

EGM, the finest gaming magazine for mature gamers has ceased publication. As if it wasn’t sad enough to see Dan “Shoe” Hsu go, now the whole damn magazine is done, thanks a lot ZD.  I seriously don’t think I’ll ever subscribe to another gaming magazine now that EGM is gone.  GamePro and GameInformer just don’t lay it out like EGM does, IMO they seem to target a younger audience.  I grew up with EGM and enjoyed getting an issue every month.  EGM was loved and will be missed.  Guess ‘ll have to rely massively on Joystiq and Kotaku now.

The gaming community is buzzing today about this news.  Some of my favorite sites are providing coverage of the 1UP/UGO/EGM situation.  More info through Joystiq.com (1,2), Kotaku.com (1,2) and Gamasutra.com.

I wish everyone who got the short end of the stick well in their future endeavors.

Shunya Yamashita Presents X-Men’s Rogue Bishoujo Figure

Posted by zerofigures on December 10, 2008

rogue-bishoujo-sy-koto-1

Those who have followed my collection should be well aware that I’m a huge Shunya fan. His images and art style are simply full of beauty and eroticness. So when my girlfriend mentioned something about a new Shunya figure, my figure antenna went up full staff. When she mentioned it was Rogue, I was a bit taken back. I had earlier been scanning my email and received notice of it through an online retailer. Things is, I took no notice of it (quickly scanning through your email early in the morning will cause that).  I actually saw the thumbnail and moved on, “Oh, Rogue” I said.  Now, knowing that Shunya had a hand in it’s creation, it’s got my full attention.

rogue-bishoujo-sy-koto-21

Upon further investigation and higher resolution pictures, another must have Shunya was added to my list. The pose, the face, the hair, the body, all simply stunning. Shunya’s presentation shows Rogue in a whole new light. All my years of Marvel comic’s never made me feel this way about Rogue.

p4Totally Off Topic but it’s 8:45pm EST and my Persona 4 with Artbook and Soundtrack just arrived through some carrier services Amazon .com uses.  While this is the latest package I’ve ever received it’s still Awesome!

Back on topic,  though this is a Shunya, I’ve never seen an actual 2d image of the original drawing if there is one as I have most.  To my knowledge it isn’t in any of the artbooks I have.  If anyone has a link, I’d be more than appreciative if you could provide it.

rogue-bishoujo-sy-koto-4

This is a Kotobukiya release so the quality should be damn good and should closely resemble the prototype we are now being shown.  I beg those who will make the decision on which Shunya/marvel character to release next, to please go with Storm.  Not only because of the lack of ethnic figures but Storm would be awesome with her flowing cape and white hair.  followed up buy Phoenix/Jean Grey, She-Hulk, Black Cat and maybe a hot Jubilee for the loli lovers.

gotta love this shot

gotta love this shot

For my preorder, I went through ToysLogic.  Never had a problem with them for many orders.  Shipping is cheap and so is the figure compared to many recent releases.

Black Friday and Imploding Credit Cards

Posted by zerofigures on December 3, 2008

Hey, What goes on people? Haven’t posted in a while but I’m still around and the figures are still coming. Been meaning to update you guys on lots of new figures (Kai Harn, Aya, NonNon, Kanu) that I’ve gotten but just haven’t had the time.

There’s a lot of gaming to be done and I definitely have enough stock. Completing Lego Batman with the GF so that will take some time. Borrowed Midnight Club:La from a friend and that’s going well. Hope to be done with that soon as I’d like to move on to any of the various games that I’ve purchased recently including Fallout 3, Orange Box, MGS4, Uncharted, and Rainbow Six Vegas 1 (two was so good, I decided to pick up one). Gears of War 2 is going great (also got the lancer from amazon and RC tank from Best Buy), Halo 3 is always a good play, Still haven’t touched my Lost Planet, and I’ve yet to do more than 2 stages in the tower in Soul Calibur IV. All of this and yet I still have Blue Dragon, The Simpsons Game, Burnout Paradise, Pure, Arcana Heart, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, and Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit still sealed. That’s not even including my full PS2 backlog.

There are just so many damn good games out this season that it’s impossible to resist most. Especially with this past weekends sale due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. This is indeed one of the best BF’s to be a gamer. Too bad it had to show up when the economy is is such shitty shape.

The way I’m spending it’s almost as if i don’t realize we’re in a recession. Investing in a new Canon xsi and hope to be having fun with that soon. Seems like every week, 2-4 figures I preordered months ago decided to be released. Too much time in from the the computer is leading me to be on Ebay and bid on things that I may not need but definitely want, like a couple of rare games or a missing car or two from amy Hot Wheels collection.

Everyday it’s something new. Walked in to a store to sell some CDs I had laying around and as I am waiting for that to get done, I look around the store and see figures. I rush over to find a couple of things I’d love to have if I had more space and money. Two things stood out. the First was Fate Stay Rider Bust included as a freebie with some manga or something. I really have no idea what else is in the box but at $10 i couldn’t pass it up. I some how felt I was getting a good deal (even if I wasn’t), can some body let me know if that was a good deal? It’s brand new in box from Kaiyodo. Is it rare, old? Second item I jumped on was Alter’s Aegis box was damaged a bit but at $40 she immediately grew on me. Her design/stance makes me think she may be a leaner though.

While all of this is going there’s still the issue of Christmas presents for friends and family. Geez, gotta keep my eyes open for some good deals. My credit card company is gonna love me but my postal carriers are surely going to hate me. Whats a decent tip for postal carriers for the holiday season?
